The Mwereni School was founded in 1943 by James Nevil,an Irish Missionary father under Catholic Church.In early 1970s it fell in the hands of the Government. Mwereni was formally known as Saint Louis Primary School under the Roman Catholic Church during the British colonial rule until Tanzania attained her independence in 1961.
